My friend Janet from California is staying with me in a great apartment on Corso dei Tintori in the Santa Croce area of Florence. I arrived on Saturday to lovely weather in the low 80’s F during the day and 60 at night, so sleeping is comfortable. Don’t you just love September weather? I rented our apartment from Apartments Florence. It has a great view of the Arno from a large terrazzo and I am reading Inferno by Dan Brown. So I am in the perfect head to enjoy the fruits of the Rinascimento. On Sunday I visited the Bargello Museo Nazionale in advance of Janet’s arrival. Cellini, Michaelangelo, Donatello and Verrochio were waiting there for me as always. So why does the Palazzo seem more beautiful every time I’ve visited over the last decades? The first time I was there in 1975 my class from Rome was traveling with our art history professor, Dr. Benge from Temple University. The Bargello is not always on the list of sites for a first, or even second, visit. I say don’t miss it if you’re interested in the best collection of 14 and 15th century sculpture in the world. See you later with photos and more when I return home and can upload from my new Canon.
